17 Ways To Take Better Control Of Your Life

17 Ways To Take Better Control Of Your Life

September 24, 2020 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

Does life seem like it has got on top of you? We’ve all been there from time-to-time. You feel as though you are not fully in control of your own life. There can be a number of causes behind this loss of control, one of these is stress. But this lack of control brings about more stress and soon you end up in a cycle where you feel even less in control than before.

So, how do you go about breaking the cycle? It is, of course, possible for you to regain control of your life. Here is how you can help get control over your life again.

1 Make Small Changes

First and foremost, when it comes to making changes in your life to reduce the amount of stress that you are under, you should make small changes. If you are too focused on fixing big problems, you will feel overwhelmed by everything. Often, these problems are too big to overcome as they are, so you will need to break them down and deal with them in smaller chunks.

Instead of tackling the big issue on its own, break it down and work on making small changes. It will be more achievable and you’ll be able to keep yourself motivated while you make the changes you need to make.

2 Imagine Being the Person You Want to Become

When it comes to making changes in your life, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to change and what you would like the end result to be. Think about the person that you would like to become and focus all of your attention on becoming that person.

This may mean making changes in your career, your relationship, your social life, or your home life.

3 Emulate the People You Admire

Everyone has people that they admire and the reasons that you admire someone may be completely different to the reasons someone will admire someone else. Think about the people that you admire and why you admire them. Then find out what they did to get to where they are in their lives. While it is impossible to try and relive someone else’s life, it is possible to emulate them to an extent.

4 Cut Back on the Amount that You Drink

A drink every once in a while can help you to unwind. But if you find that you need alcohol to help you unwind on a daily basis, then you should consider cutting back on the amount that you drink.

By drinking fewer drinks and being less frequent when you do so will not only help your health and your bank balance, but it will also help you to regain control of your life. You’ll make better life decisions when you’re not having to deal with the negative effects of alcohol.

5 Get Your Home in Order

If you want to get your life in order, you should start off by getting your surroundings in order. If your home is cluttered, it could cause you to feel stressed.

Start off by tidying your home from top to bottom. As you tidy your home, make sure that you start to get rid of anything that you no longer want or need. You should put these up for sale online, or you may fancy trying to sell them in a yard or garage sale.

Once your home is free from clutter you may find that you are able to think clearer and your home won’t be a source of stressful feelings.

6 Get Your Paperwork in Order

There are some pieces of paperwork that you should keep safe. When it comes to important letters and documents that you need to hold onto, you will need to know where these are. But if your documents are not kept in order, it can cause more stress.

Sort out all of the paperwork and ensure you are only keeping what you need. If you have paperwork that you don’t need, shred it.

Sort your paperwork out into type and date order. That way, you’ll be able to find things much quicker.

7 Take Out Health Insurance

Getting your life in order means thinking about what will happen to your estate in the event of your death. This is particularly important if you have a family who depends on you. Here’s how to find the best deals on health insurance.

8 Start Each Day With a To-Do List

3 point intro to self careEvery morning, sit down and write a to-do list detailing everything that you’d like to get done during that day.

Make sure that you prioritize the jobs that are the most important and do these first. If all of the jobs have equal importance, choose the task that you know that you’ll enjoy doing the least and get that out of the way first.

Remember, if you don’t get everything finished that you’ll need to add things to your to-do list the next day.

9 Create a Meal Plan

Do you find that you eat dull, uninspiring, and unhealthy meals every day? If you don’t plan your meals you’ll often find that you’re left eating the same meals over and over. Often, if you’re too tired to make a decision about what to eat you’ll end up eating convenience food that isn’t good for you.

Creating a meal plan is a way of ensuring you have a good meal to look forward to every day. Create a plan and use the plan to make your shopping list from. Learn the best system out there and get 4 done-for-you meal plans with my Meal Planning Made Easy Program.

10 Batch Cook Your Meals

One of the best ways to ensure you always have a good meal to look forward to, even if you don’t have the time or energy to cook them, is to batch cook your meals in advance. There are some meals that lend themselves well to batch cooking. For instance, stews, chillis, curries, and pasta dishes are all great meals that can be made in bulk to be enjoyed on a later day.

11 Buy Only What You Need

Once you have made a meal plan and a shopping list based on the batch cooked meals that you plan on making, you can head to the supermarkets. Make sure that you stick to your shopping list and you only buy the items that you know that you’ll need. If you get into the habit of buying things that you don’t need, you may end up wasting money and produce if it doesn’t get eaten in time.

12 Eat Healthily

Eating healthy food can help fight stress in your life. When you eat well, you’ll have more natural energy and you’ll be able to make the changes that you need to make.

Make sure that you have a balanced diet that is full of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as all of your main food groups and minerals and vitamins.

13 Take Supplements

It can be hard to get all of the right vitamins and minerals into your diet, but they are all important and serve a different purpose to your health. One of the best ways of ensuring that you get the right mix of vitamins and minerals is to take supplements each day.

14 Take Regular Exercise

Exercise is important to our health for many reasons, but if you’re feeling as though you are not in control or are under stress a lot of the time, then you should definitely look at ways of getting more exercise.

Exercise is a natural way of relieving stress. When you exercise, your body creates endorphins which will make you feel good.

If you are currently not very active, pick an easy activity such as walking to start off. Start off small and work up to more vigorous or longer exercise sessions.

15 Take a Career Test To Find Out What You Should Do With Your Life

If you are not sure about what you’d like to do with your life for a career, or you are stuck in a rut in the job that you are currently in, then you may wish to do a career test to find out what type of job would best suit you.

16 Open Up To Others

If you are struggling with a problem, find a friend or family member that is sympathetic and talk about your problems with them. After all, a problem shared is a problem halved.

Very often, if we bottle up our emotions and don’t talk about them then we lose the ability to talk about how we feel. This can lead to use feeling overwhelmed or not knowing how we’re feeling from one moment to the next.

17 Take Up a New Hobby

If you want to feel good about your life, then you should look for things that you enjoy doing. This may mean finding a new hobby or interest that you can throw yourself into. By engaging with your interests you will naturally find more of a passion for life that will spread.
