7 Not-So-Obvious Tips For Keeping Your Kidneys Healthy

December 22, 2021 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

The kidneys are the organs that filter blood and excrete waste. It’s important to keep your kidneys healthy, but it can be difficult to know what you should do. It is easy to let your health slip in today’s fast-paced and busy world. But one of the most important things you can do for your body is to take care of your kidneys!

Being the leading cause of death in the United States, Kidney disease is a life-threatening disease that you should avoid. Knowing how to keep your kidneys healthy can help you prevent this medical condition and live a long, happy life. Here are eight not-so-obvious tips for keeping your kidneys healthy:

Stay Hydrated

This one may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s extremely important that you stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids each day. This will help your kidneys function properly and filter out toxins from your body.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet is another important way to keep your kidneys healthy. Make sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet, as well as lean protein and whole grains. Avoiding processed foods and sugary drinks is also key.

Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise is not only good for your overall health, but it’s also good for your kidneys! Exercising helps keep the kidneys functioning properly and helps flush out toxins.

Watch Your Sodium Intake

Too much sodium can be bad for your kidneys, so it’s important to watch your intake. Try to avoid processed foods and restaurant meals, which are often high in sodium. Instead, cook at home using fresh ingredients.

Quit Smoking and Drinking

Smoking is not only bad for your lungs, but it’s also bad for your kidneys! If you smoke, try to quit as soon as possible. Quitting smoking can be difficult, but plenty of resources are available to help you do so.

Also, drinking alcohol in moderation is okay, but drinking too much can be bad for your kidneys. You could also stop taking beer altogether. If you have to, try to stick to no more than one drink per day if you’re a woman and two drinks per day if you’re a man. If you have an addiction and need help, you could check out rehablist.org for ideal alcohol and drug rehab centers.

Manage Your Blood Pressure

High blood pressure can damage the kidneys over time, so it’s important to manage it if you have it. Taking medication and making lifestyle changes, such as eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly, can help control blood pressure.

Get Checked for Kidney Disease

It’s important to get checked for kidney disease periodically, especially if you have risk factors such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Early detection is key in preventing the disease from progressing.

Conclusion

Keeping your kidneys healthy is important for your overall health and well-being. With kidney health being so important, it is imperative to take care of your kidneys. These not-so-obvious tips for keeping your kidneys healthy are just what you need if you have been neglecting this crucial organ. These steps will help keep your kidneys in tip-top shape, live a long life without any complications, and prevent recurring kidney stones.
