Candied Cherry Gravy

Candied Cherry Gravy

It’s that time of year! The season of seasonal delights including candied fruit! The Paradise Fruit Company has an incredible selection if you’re looking for a reputable fruit company to order from. They gave me a large assortment of their products to create some new recipes for them, and boy was I ecstatic to get in the kitchen! I have had a blast creating some traditional and non-traditional recipes. Move over baked goods, today I have a fun new way to use this holiday treat!

Instead of a cranberry sauce to go with your Thanksgiving turkey, try a candied cherry gravy. It’s sweet, flavorful and just a hint of savory. While it is that time of year, it doesn’t only taste great on turkey. It pairs nicely with duck, venison and other wild game. Whatever you like to enjoy, adding this gravy is a great way to add variety to your meals and use this fun seasonal favorite.

Candied Cherry Gravy

This recipe is a blend of candied cherries, candied orange peel, and candied ginger mixed with chicken bone broth (or stock), salt and pepper to taste (especially pepper), and a little bit of arrowroot (or corn) starch. The simplicity of it is my favorite. I usually make my own cranberry sauce and this recipe is much more simple and takes less guesswork. Total win in my book!

How to Make It

For this recipe you will need 4 ounces of candied cherries, 1 teaspoon candied orange peel, and 1 tablespoon candied ginger. Take the cherries, place them in a food processor and pulse to rough chop into smaller pieces. Rough chop the ginger  (you’ll be removing it later so you don’t want small chunks). In a small pot add 2 cups of chicken bone broth, cherries, orange, and ginger. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring regularly to prevent burning. Once the gravy has reduced and thickened, remove the ginger chunks and add 1 teaspoon of starch of choice (I use arrowroot) and whisk quickly to thicken. Then stir in salt and pepper to taste. I did about 1/8 teaspoon sea salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Remove from the heat and let cool for about 5 minutes before serving. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days if needed.

Be sure to check out all the Paradise Fruit Company has to offer over on their website https://www.paradisefruitco.com/ I’m impressed with their level of customer service and the quality of their product. It’s an honor to have been chosen to create this recipe and several more to come. Be sure to check back regularly for more recipes featuring candied fruit!
