How to Deal with Insomnia: Everything You Need to Know

How to Deal with Insomnia: Everything You Need to Know

February 22, 2022 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

Do you have trouble sleeping? Are you tossing and turning all night long? If so, you are not alone. Insomnia is a common problem that many people deal with on a daily basis. In this blog post, we will discuss what insomnia is, the symptoms, and how to deal with it. We will also provide some helpful tips to help you get the sleep you need.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that affects millions of people. It’s estimated that up to 30% of adults have some symptoms of insomnia. It can be caused by many things, including stress, anxiety, medication, and health conditions. Symptoms of insomnia include difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or getting restful sleep.

Types of Insomnia

Insomnia is a sleep disorder that can cause problems with falling asleep, staying asleep or both. It’s possible to experience occasional insomnia, which usually goes away on its own after a few nights, or chronic insomnia, which lasts for more than three weeks and requires treatment. If you have trouble sleeping, there are things you can do to help improve your sleep habits and get the rest you need.

What is Causing Your Insomnia

The first step in dealing with insomnia is figuring out what’s causing it. There are many potential causes of insomnia, including stress, anxiety, depression, pain, medication side effects, restless legs syndrome (RLS), and sleep apnea. Once you know what’s causing your insomnia, you can work on finding ways to address the problem.

Stress

If stress is the cause of your insomnia, for example, you can try relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or yoga before bed. If anxiety is to blame, you might want to try cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) or medication. If depression is causing sleep problems, treatment with antidepressant medications or talk therapy may help.

Pain

If pain keeps you up at night, your doctor may be able to prescribe medication or suggest other treatments that can help reduce pain and improve sleep. For example, if restless legs syndrome is the issue, taking certain medications or supplements, avoiding caffeine and alcohol late in the day, and exercising regularly can help. And if sleep apnea is disrupting your slumber, using a CPAP machine or other treatment may be necessary.

Helpful Tips

Once you’ve identified and addressed the cause of your insomnia, there are several things you can do to improve your sleep habits. Here are a few tips:

Get Regular Exercise

Exercise can help you fall asleep and get a good night’s sleep. Try to do something active every day.

Limit Caffeine and Alcohol Intake

Caffeine and alcohol can interfere with your ability to fall asleep and get a good night’s sleep.

Relaxation Techniques

Try relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation before going to bed. Or even try a CBD Sleep Tincture from CBDistillery. These may help you fall asleep and get a good night’s restful sleep.

Limit Screen Time

Limit screen time before bedtime, especially if it involves bright lights or stimulating content (like watching TV shows). The light from screens can interfere with melatonin production in your body, which is necessary for sleep regulation; this makes it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night. Try reading instead. Reading stimulates your mind while also helping you relax.

Bedtime Routine

Create a bedtime routine that helps you relax before sleep. This may include reading, taking a bath, listening to calming music, or anything else that helps you wind down.

Dealing with insomnia can be difficult, but there are many ways to get help. If you’re struggling with insomnia, talk to your doctor about possible treatment options. Then, with the right tools and strategies, you can overcome insomnia and get the rest you need.
