How To Maintain Perfect Pearly Whites

Looking after your teeth might seem like a simple task, but realistically achieving proper oral hygiene requires more than just regular brushing. However, maintaining those perfect pearly whites doesn’t have to be unaffordably expensive or excessively time-consuming, as there are a few simple tips and tricks that you can make the most of to see and feel the benefits in no time at all. So, if you would like to find out more, then read on to uncover some of the best oral care steps that you can follow now to keep your teeth strong and clean for as long as possible!

Say No To Sugar (and Sugar Substitutes)

Sugar is potentially one of the worst common ingredients that society consumes today, as it provides the mind and body with no nutritional benefits whatsoever. Sugar has a disastrous effect on your teeth, as it mixes with the bacteria in your mouth to encourage the formation of an acid which damages the enamel (a protective layer) that surrounds your teeth. Over time this enamel can slowly dissolve and disappear, leaving your teeth out in the open vulnerable to cavities, decay, and even tooth loss. Rinsing your mouth with water after consuming anything sweet is said to help reduce these symptoms, but realistically the only way to cut the risk is to cut the amount of sugar you consume. It can be tricky to go sugar-free, but you will experience a variety of different benefits as a result of such an important change

Adopt A Clean Routine

Adopting a quality clean routine is so essential when aiming to maintain those perfect pearly whites, as you need to take part in constant care to stay on top of oral hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice daily (morning and evening) with a fluoride-containing toothpaste, and follow this up by swilling with mouthwash. There are many different kinds of mouthwash to suit different people, so have a look in your local drug store to see which option best fits your needs – bad breath, bleeding gums and sensitivities are just a few symptoms that a good mouthwash aims to treat. Flossing is another essential clean routine step, so be sure to utilise floss at least 3 times a week to clean between your teeth (where brushing simply can’t reach).

Can alignment issues affect your pearly whites?

It’s not just a cosmetic concern. While people do straighten their teeth for aesthetic reasons as much as anything else, the truth is that serious alignment issues can make it much harder to clean your teeth. If they are misaligned in ways that make it hard to brush or floss certain teeth or parts of teeth, this will contribute to discoloration and decay and should be fixed by an orthodontist. Managing teeth misalignment has a whole host of benefits, such as creating a more beautiful smile and making chewing easier, but it can affect the cleanliness and hygiene of your mouth, too.

Visit A Specialist Regularly

You may think you have the knowledge to spot a tooth problem as soon as it shows any warning signs, but unfortunately some of these signals just aren’t visible to the naked eye. Visiting a specialist regularly will allow you to identify and treat any oral issues as soon as they become apparent, as a medical or cosmetic dentist maintains years of knowledge and experience and can spot a problem before it becomes unbearably painful.

Maintaining perfect pearly whites has never been so simple when you are able to make the most of the top tips and tricks detailed above! Taking good care of your teeth can be a breeze when you know how.
