How to Make Your Home Safe For the Whole Family

How to Make Your Home Safe For the Whole Family

January 8, 2020 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

The dream is to have a home that’s clean, well-designed, social, and conducive for creating plenty of happy memories with your loved ones. It’s important to note, however, that if that is going to come to pass, then you’ll need to take steps to make it a reality. A dream will remain just a dream unless you put in the effort required to make it happen! While you’ll have a lot of priorities for your home, perhaps the most important is ensuring that it’s safe for all members of your household. We take a look at a few tried and tested tips for making this happen.

Child-Friendly Spaces

There’s nothing better than watching your young children play and have fun. They’re just so curious and love exploring around your home. While this will mostly be a source of joy, it’s also important that you’re taking steps to prevent anything bad from happening. While the dangers of the home might be obvious to you, they’re not obvious to a young child! You’ll want to consider keeping them confined to a single area of the home, where they’ll have the freedom to have as much fun as their heart desires. Those potentially dangerous objects, such as sharp items and products with hazardous chemicals, should also be kept well out of reach.

Easy to Get Around

You might be surprised at what causes the most injuries in the home. While you might think it’s due to big incidents, such as fires, studies have shown that you’re more likely to be injured by falling. It comes as little surprise that the people most likely to be injured through falling are people in retirement age. Your parents might not live with you, but you’ll want to make them feel welcome in your home. If they have mobility issues, then make the most of non-slippery surfaces, handicap ramps, and chair lifts in the home. This will give you and them peace of mind that they’re unlikely to have an injury while they’re visiting you.

Calm Spaces

There are many different ways that you can make your home feel safe. One such way is to increase the home’s comfort and relaxation credentials. It can be a crazy old world out there, so it’s recommended to create a space that is entirely insular, one that is conducive to a calm mind. This won’t just add a feeling of security in the home; it can also help improve your family’s health; a lot of illnesses and diseases can materialize if a person is stressed.

Keeping Pooch Safe

Don’t forget about the non-human members of your family too! Your dog will have its own requirements when it comes to staying safe. We all know that dogs love to dig around and get their noses into forbidden places, so it’s super important that you lock away anything that might cause them harm. Additionally, take a look at the front of your home, and ensure that they can’t get out into the road.

Keep The Air Clean

Did you know most indoor air is far more polluted than the air outside with all the cars? It’s true. There are a few simple steps you can take to greatly improve your homes air quality. Be sure to let fresh air into every room daily, change air filters monthly, and if needed, invest in a quality air purifier. All these steps help keep viruses, bacteria, and mold as well!
