The Mind Over Matter Method: Coping With Ailing Health By Having A Positive Mindset

The Mind Over Matter Method: Coping With Ailing Health By Having A Positive Mindset

April 3, 2019 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

It can be very difficult for us to keep a lid on our emotions when we are diagnosed with a condition that, on the surface, can be very limiting. Whether it’s to do with your mental health, or you’re diagnosed with a disease that can be a long road to recovery, it’s important that we do our best to have a positive mindset. Of course, this is easier said than done, but is there anything we can do to ensure that we are at least tackling the issue effectively in mind?

Knowing Your Options

Whether you are diagnosed with a hearing problem or a long-term disease, in effect, you’re taking a problem-solving approach to ensure you understand what your options can be. Because if you’re diagnosed with a hearing condition, it’s not just about the hearing aid, but while hearing aid programming information and advice about the condition is always helpful, it’s also about knowing the emotional repercussions of this. And from there, understanding what your options are to overcome things like isolation, or anxiety and depression can mean that you are preparing yourself better. The big issue most of us have when we are diagnosed with something is that we don’t really know our options, and just rely on the health professional to give us all the information we want. But, it’s far better for us to be more proactive and ensure that we are taking control of our diagnosis.

Feeling Control Over The Issue

And this is the big thing with being diagnosed with a medical condition. You’re not a doctor, so you don’t really know how best to go about treating it, apart from listening to what the doctors say. But this is where mind over matter can be beneficial. Because we don’t feel that we have control over the problem, this means that we’re in the dark as far as the issues are concerned. But this means we’ve got to work harder at improving our mindset, not just by making our attitude more positive, but by also learning to live with something and not let it get us down. Depression and anxiety are common problems, but rather than learning to fight or kick against these problems, you might be better taking the meditative approach to things, and understanding that these things happen, but learning to accept it.

So how can we get to this point?

A positive mindset isn’t just blind faith, but it’s about a hefty combination of understanding the problem you have, but also understanding your own personal reactions to it. And one of the best things we can all do to ensure that we are coping with a problem effectively is minimizing our stress levels. After all, reacting to bad news means that we can get stressed and worried. But to begin with, you need to have control over your nervous system. And this can be done by breathing, learning how to become, but also seeking out support. When we are diagnosed with something, we have to remember that we are never alone in the issue, even though it may feel like it.

Please know that when you need extra support for building a new way of living around chronic disease, we are here for you. We would love to make your life easier and give you the support you need during this time. Feel free to send us an email or give us a call.
