The Art Of Balance: Moving Towards Equilibrium In Life

January 17, 2019 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

Busy! Its an excellent armor for not dealing with all the problems we have in life. Sadly if we are too overwhelmed and too busy for too long, it can have a seriously detrimental effect on our lives. In fact, it can cause stress, anxiety, and more pervasive issue such as feelings of discouragement and dissatisfaction. Luckily, righting the balance in life can help with this, that is why it’s so important to be able to work towards more of an equilibrium. Something that you can find out more on how to do in the post below.

The Art Of Balance: Moving Towards Equilibrium In Life

Stop and be

If you treat finding balance as just another task on your ever growing to do list you are setting yourself up to fail. This is because to work out where we are unbalanced we first need to stop moving literally and metaphorically and assess the situation. In fact, being able to stop and diagnose any issues or imbalances in our lives is an essential step on the path to finding more equilibrium.

The Art Of Balance: Moving Towards Equilibrium In Life

Happily, there are some techniques we can use to help us with this including therapy, medication, and even day to day mindfulness. Something that you can learn more about in my post here.

Prioritize

Next, once you have identified the problems in your life that are throwing you off balance, it’s time to think about what it should look like. This is when you have to combine your skills of imagination, and planning, and prioritizing. Something you can read more about at http://lightwayofthinking.com/ideal-life/. In particular look for frustrations, bad habits, and situation where you are unhappy, as these are great signifiers that something in your life is out of whack.

While the journey towards equilibrium takes practices. These are two great places to start.

The Art Of Balance: Moving Towards Equilibrium In Life

Are you focusing on the priorities that serve you well and bring balance to your life?

Then it’s up to you to take a long hard look at what you spend your time doing and compare this to the life that you want to live. Does it match up, or are you investing your time and energy into things that aren’t ultimately serving your greater goals and purpose?

If you find that the latter is the case, you will need to re-prioritize where your energy is going, a skill you can learn more about at https://www.wisdomtimes.com/blog/how-do-you-prioritize-your-goals-in-life/.  In fact, it is by doing this that you can most easily rebalance your life because you will be working the hardest and spending the longest on the things that are most important to you. Something that should help you not only achieve results but also be happier and more fulfilled as well.

Kicking bad habits.

Of course, attaining balance isn’t all about putting more time into the things that are important to you, it’s also about taking time and energy away from things that aren’t serving you. Unfortunately, this can be a tough one for many of us, because we usually develop bad habits as ways of coping that seem to help at least in the short term, but ultimately push us further off balance. Examples of this being shopping addition, binge eating, drinking alcohol to excess and even using drugs.

Of course, the key to achieving balance in the long term is to deal with these maladaptive coping mechanism and addictions. Otherwise, true equilibrium will never be possible.

Luckily, this isn’t something that you have to deal with all on your own, as there are plenty of professionals that you can turn to for help if you find yourself in this type of situation.  It’s well worth doing some research on the types of treatments that work best for the problem you are suffering with before you make this choice too.

The reason being that CBT therapy may be enough to treat a mild case of binge eating disorder, but those with more established addictions issues will want to visit sites like https://www.resolutionsbh.com/resources/mat-fact-vs-fiction/ to read about things like the facts of medication-assisted treatment. An approach that is producing long-lasting results.

After all, its only be educating yourself on the help that is out there that you will be in a  position to decide which course of treatment is right for you. Something that is essential to ultimately regaining balance in your life.

After all, tomorrow is another day.

Lastly, when it comes to balance, remember that you are aiming for progress rather than perfection. That means you have to not only be disciplined but have compassion for yourself as well.

In fact, it’s almost guaranteed that you will fail on your quest for more balance from time to time, and the key here is to dust yourself off and keep trying. Something you can’t do by beating yourself up for every misstep along the way. To that end, when searching for equilibrium in life, remember that even if you get it wrong today, you have a whole new day to try again tomorrow!
