Eeeek! My lungs are gasping for air already.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Rest assured, there is a better way. With only a few simple ingredients and the power of essential oils, homemade cleaners are just as effective, will save you money, and come with aromatherapy benefits that actually <i>improve<\/i> your health instead of putting you at risk.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With so many cleaners worthy of replacement, I chose to share healthy versions for two of the most harmful cleaners available, the \u201ctoxic twins\u201d&#8230;Clog Remover and Toilet Bowl Cleaner. Enjoy!<\/p>\n<h3>DIY Clog Remover &amp; Drain Cleaner<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cleaning Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\u00bc \u00a0cup baking soda<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\u00bc \u00a0cup salt<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">10 drops Lemon essential oil<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\u00bd cup vinegar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"im\">How to use them:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">2 cups boiling water<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">1 drain \u201csnake\u201d<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Glass bowl or jar to mix and store remaining ingredients.\u00a0(E<em>ssential oils can absorb into and break down plastic)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">For a kitchen sink or slow-drain kind of clog, try this first!<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Remove the drain cover or stopper and pour one cup of baking soda, followed by a \u00bd cup of distilled vinegar down the open drain. Cover drain immediately with a plug or plate to trap the foaming\/cleaning action.\u00a0 Let sit 30 minutes, then rinse with 2 cups boiling water afterwards.\u00a0 Better yet, let the solution sit overnight and pour 2 cups boiling water in the morning.<\/p>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\">No improvement?\u00a0 Want water that \u201cswirls\u201d when it goes down the drain?\u00a0 Try these:<\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">1. For bathroom sinks and tub drains, the best way to start is by using a \u201csnake\u201d plumbing tool to remove the blockage manually.\u00a0 These can be found at just about any local department store.\u00a0 Simply feed the snake brush down the drain, twist, and pull out the hair that is usually the main culprit in the bathroom.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">2. For a deeper clean, remove the \u201ctrap\u201d under the sink (if accessible) and clean it thoroughly using a paper towel.\u00a0 Yes, it\u2019s kind of gross, but effective!\u00a0 Lay down a towel and have a bucket or large bowl ready to catch the water underneath or you\u2019ll learn that lesson the hard way.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">3.\u00a0 Now that most of the gunk and grime is removed, it\u2019s time to disinfect!\u00a0Mix the baking soda, salt and essential oils, then sprinkle half the powder mixture down the drain and follow with boiling water. The salt and baking soda help scour and break up the buildup, while the essential oils naturally clean and disinfect leaving a fresh citrus scent.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">No fumes to run away from!\u00a0 In fact, you may suddenly find yourself locked in with a good book, shouting an occasional \u201cI\u2019m cleaning the bathroom!!\u201d when the kids (or hubs) come a knockin\u2019&#8230;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Let it sit for 45 minutes to an hour so it can work it\u2019s magic, then rinse with tap water.<\/p>\n<p>A weekly treatment keep drains clear.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"im\"><br \/>\n<\/span>Quick &amp; Easy Toilet Cleaner<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2408\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2408\" src=\"http:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1.jpg\" alt=\"diy toilet bowl cleaner\" width=\"639\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1.jpg 639w, https:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.roadtolivingwhole.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/cleaning-1-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">My three favorite ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">1 cup baking soda<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">20 drops *Purify or Lemon essential oil<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">white distilled vinegar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mix baking soda and essential oils in a glass bowl, then store in a glass mason jar (or cute decorative jar) for multiple use.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"im\">Flush toilet to wet the sides, then dust inside of bowl with 2-3 Tablespoons of powder mix and scrub with toilet brush or rag.\u00a0 Add 4 Tablespoons (or more) of white vinegar and scrub again while fizzing.\u00a0 The baking soda acts as a scouring agent, while the essential oils and vinegar act as the cleanser and disinfectant.\u00a0 The foaming action helps loosen dirt and grime.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>*Purify is fantastic for this cleaner because it has a beautifully strong citrus scent that I love! Great for odors. Oils in this blend are: Lemon, Lime, Austrian Fir, Siberian Fir, Pine, Citronella, Melaleuca and Cilantro.<\/div>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Do you have a favorite DIY natural cleaner?
