Coping with Age Related Chronic Pain

September 9, 2020 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

A peculiar thing can happen to your body as you age. You might find that you struggle to get up the stairs without feeling pain in the joints of your legs. Or, you could discover that your arms feel a lot stiffer than they used to while typing at your laptop. It’s possible that you can’t stay as active without feeling pain in your back or you might discover that your chest gets sore on the running machine. Chronic pain is a common issue for those of a certain age. As such it’s important to know how to deal with this the right way. But first, we need to know what causes chronic pain as you age?

Why Does Your Body Ache?

It’s possible that the pain is caused by an older injury that you overlooked and probably completely forgot about. When the body doesn’t heal the right way, it’s common for pain to remain and leave people feeling constant aches. That’s why if you are involved in an accident you should always get checked out by a doctor. It’s impossible to guarantee that you haven’t been injured without a medical checkup, even if you feel fine.

Alternatively, your chronic pain could be caused by a medical condition such as fibromyalgia. In the past, this was thought to be psychological. However, times have changed and now doctors agree that there is a physical cause of an issue like this. In some cases, it’s due to crucial areas around the spine becoming inflamed.

Of course, in some cases, it can just be a sign that your body is getting older. Once you reach a certain age physical tasks do become more difficult and taxing, even if you are in fantastic shape.

Coping With Chronic Pain

Now, let’s explore some of the key ways that you can cope with chronic pain. There are a few possibilities worth exploring. For instance, you can consult with a doctor. If you speak with a doctor, they will likely offer you medicine to help you deal with your pain more effectively. You just have to be careful that you don’t rely too heavily on stronger types of medicine. This can be a rocky road and lead to you needing more meds to cope with the pain.

CBD Oil

Alternatively, you might want to look at options like CBD. Martha Stewart CBD and similar products have been found to be highly effective in helping treat chronic pain and reducing the issues that individuals experience.

Counseling

You might also want to pursue the psychological route. There are many times that physical pain is an outlet of emotional pain that hasn’t been addressed. While it’s certainly true that there will be a physical cause of your pain, therapy can help. It can allow you to train your brain to ignore the majority of the pain and therefore keep you more comfortable.

We hope this helps you understand the right way to handle and deal with chronic pain as you age. While this can be quite the challenge, it’s important to understand that this doesn’t have to destroy your quality of life. You can, with the right steps, tackle this issue head-on and guarantee that it doesn’t deter you from doing the things that you want.
