Dealing With Muscle Injuries

Dealing With Muscle Injuries

November 19, 2019 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

A lot of patients that suffer from neck injuries, many of which are the result of a muscle problem. A sore neck can be extremely frustrating; not only can it be painful, but it seems to get in the way of everything, with patients struggling to carry out their normal daily tasks while also finding it tough to concentrate or sleep at night.

This is why it is so important to get the issue dealt with as quickly as possible at the likes of Nicholson Health and Wellness, especially as a lot of muscle injuries can be resolved without the need for extensive treatment, so long as you don’t wait around for the problem to get worse.

If you don’t get the treatment you need straight away, you would be shocked by how one tight muscle can have a dramatic effect if not seen to quickly. There are many patients that have tried different approaches to try and resolve the problem themselves, which have been unsuccessful.

A therapist will begin by carrying out a thorough assessment of your neck and symptoms, so they can make an accurate diagnosis, which is of paramount importance because there are many different types of neck problems that people can experience. Once they have discovered what’s causing the pain you are experiencing, they will then use a wide range of drug-free approaches to ensure pain is alleviated and normal functionality returns, including postural techniques, strength exercises, massage, muscle stretching and more.

Back – Muscular Spasm/Tightness

Patients suffer from back pain on a daily basis, which is of little surprise when you consider that approximately eight in ten adults will experience back pain at some point in their lives. One of the main causes of back pain is a muscular spasm, with a sudden onset in the lower back being more common than you may realize.

How Injuries Occur

There are many different causes of muscular spasms and muscle tightness, with a lot of people suffering as the result of a sports injury, an accident or overuse, which leads to spontaneous and involuntary contractions of the muscle. Aside from causing severe pain, other symptoms include stress, the inability to move the affected part of the back, a forward-leaning posture as well as tightness and tension in the muscle.

Get to the root

As there are many different causes of muscle spasms, and many different ways these injuries present themselves, the diagnosis stage is of the utmost importance. When you book a therapy session, a specialist will always begin by thoroughly assessing your symptoms while performing diagnostic tests on your back so they can get to the root of the problem, which in turn allows them to make an accurate diagnosis so they can put together the most effective treatment plan.

Techniques to Try

There are many different techniques they will apply to ensure pain is alleviated and normal functionality returns as quickly as possible, including hand manipulation techniques, applying light pressure, strengthening techniques to prevent weakness in muscles, stretching the muscles to prevent long-term complications and a range of motion exercises that will help to maximise joint movement to prevent stiff joints and reduce muscle stiffness.
