Reasons Your Hearing is Decreasing

February 5, 2020 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

Hearing loss is an uncomfortable condition that is dramatically amplified by our modern lifestyles. From loud sounds traumas to old age degeneration, more and more people struggle with varying degrees of hearing loss. Thankfully, many can find the support they need to tackle hearing loss with optimism and not let it affect their lives. Indeed, the days when hearing loss would isolate you from your peers are long gone.

Nowadays, you can learn to lipread and also learn American Sign Language to keep up with everyday conversations or follow your favorite TV shows with subtitles. In short, you don’t need to be able to hear to play your part in the community. However, our positive attitude towards hearing loss can sometimes mean that we confuse it for other disorders. Next time you ask someone to repeat what they’ve just said, take the time to consider whether your hearing loss might have different causes.

You need to take a hearing test

Let’s get things straight from the start. You need to take a professional hearing test with an ear specialist to measure not only potential hearing loss but also find guidance about it. Additionally, a doctor can also measure damage to your inner ear, which can help you to choose the best devices and order aids from affordable quality suppliers such as Online Hearing. Why is a test necessary? Because not everything that seems like hearing loss can be fixed with hearing aids.

You get easily distracted

If you’re the kind of person who finds it hard to stay focused during a conversation or to pay attention to your surroundings, your short attention span can be the reason why you always ask the people around you to repeat their sentences. Unfortunately, it is a growing trend. The brain is constantly seeking new data. But if you can’t prioritize, you get distracted all the time. A few tips to help you improve your attention span: Put your smartphone away and try to focus on doing one thing at a time. You’ll find you can register what people tell you better.

You can hear your jaw click

Experts describe tinnitus, a hearing disorder, as a clicking sound. However, not all clicking sounds are caused by tinnitus. When the clicking seems to happen in your jaw, you might have TMD. TMD is a dysfunction of the joints that connect your jaw to your skull. Because they are located just below your ears, they can interfere with your hearing too. Typically, you would also experience symptoms such as your jaws getting locked in one position or earache.

Your allergies are at it again

What do allergies have to do with hearing loss? Chronic allergies can lead to sinusitis, which is a common cause of ear congestion. As a result, sounds might appear muffled and distant. However, you can regain your full hearing functions by tackling your sinus infection. Using a nasal decongestant and regular nasal rinse can do wonders. Many experience positive improvements after the addition of a humidifier to the household.

When it comes to hearing loss or hearing difficulties, it’s essential to be clear about the underlying causes. If you want to help your body be as healthy as it can, you need to be attentive about your symptoms.
