When You Do Get Sick

October 15, 2013 //  by Marian Mitchell//  Leave a Comment

Even the healthiest person gets sick every now and then. I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck. My whole body hurts, my throat is sore and I have no voice. I believe this is what my daughter had a week ago and now it’s my turn. So the question then is, what does a health coach do when they get sick? I’ll tell you my secrets to healing when sickness does come my way.

  1. REST.  Not an easy feat with two young children to take care of. Then adding work on top of that. However, it must be done. Call in the troops. Ask for help.
  2. HYDRATE Water, water, water. Our cells need water to function. They also need extra water to get rid of the virus that is attacking the body. Water is cleansing and healing. For an added boost, add a slice of lemon. Lemon is extremely alkalizing. An alkaline environment will kill any virus, cancer, or disease in our body. They thrive in an acidic environment. Take away their food!
  3. MISO SOUP This fermented soybean paste aids in digestion, has all essential amino acids, high in antioxidants and best of all, alkalizing. Very nourishing during a time when our immune system is being attacked.
  4. IMMUNE SYSTEM SUPPORT Always check with your doctor before adding in supplements to make sure they won’t interact with any meds you are on or health problems you might have. For me, I am a strong believer in oil of oregano and elderberry syrup. Oil of Oregano is a germ killer. It’s incredibly antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal and helps build up our immune system. It’s great stuff! Elderberry syrup boosts our immune system and is high in antioxidants. It is even used to help support the immune system of cancer patients.

A few recipes:

  • THROAT SOOTHER: 1 cup hot water with 1 slice of lemon and 1 tsp honey
  • MISO SOUP: 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth with 1/4 onion diced, 4 cloves fresh garlic chopped, 1/2 cup mushrooms and 2 tsps of miso paste. In a pot, bring everything but the miso to a boil then lower heat to medium low and let cook until onions are translucent and mushrooms are soft. Turn off the heat and stir in the miso until it’s dissolved.

Here’s to a fast and complete recovery! I’m off to take a nap.

Live Healthy and Whole,

Marian
